The Revolution of Recyclable Packaging

The Revolution of Recyclable Packaging

The recyclable packaging revolution is in full swing, driven by innovations in materials and design that aim to reduce the environmental impact of packaging. Taghleef Industries, with its range of films and dedicated services such as reDESIGN™, is positioned at the forefront of this change, offering solutions that combine sustainability, efficiency and functionality for a wide range of food and non food products.

What is recyclable packaging?

Recyclable packaging is designed to be reintegrated into the production cycle after use, reducing the amount of waste going to landfills and decreasing the demand for new raw materials. Traditionally, much packaging is made of multilayer materials that combine different plastics or couple plastic and aluminum to improve barrier properties and strength. However, this structural complexity makes the recycling process difficult, as separating the different materials is often complex and expensive.

Mono-material packaging films represent a breakthrough in this context. Made entirely from a single type of material, such as polypropylene, these films simplify the recycling process. PP, in particular, offers excellent mechanical and barrier properties, making it ideal for protecting a variety of products. The transition to mono-material packaging not only facilitates recycling but also contributes to a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions associated with packaging production and disposal.

What packaging films does Taghleef offer as alternative solutions?

Taghleef Industries, a global leader in packaging films, is a pioneer in the development of innovative films. One of the best-known ranges on the market is EXTENDO®, which combines the advantages of BOPP films with the excellent performance of high-barrier polymers and a low environmental impact. These films are ideal for applications that require effective protection against oxygen and moisture, such as in the case of packaged foods, ensuring freshness and extending the shelf-life of products.

Another significant innovation is the NATIVIA® line of biodegradable and compostable films that are helping to improve the sustainability of packaging and offer consumers facilities that contribute to the reduction of greenhouse and post-consumer waste.

To support brands in their transition to more recyclable packaging, Taghleef Industries offers the reDESIGN™ service, a consulting process that helps customers redesign existing packaging structures, replacing complex multilayer structures with more sustainable solutions. Through reDESIGN™, brands can align with emerging regulations, PPWR, and growing consumer expectations for sustainability, without compromising the functionality or aesthetics of the packaging.

The challenge of recyclable solutions for the food and non-food segment

The implementation of recyclable packaging solutions presents specific challenges in both the food and non-food segments. In the food segment, packaging must provide an effective barrier against contaminants, moisture, and oxygen to preserve food quality and safety. The ideal alternative is offered by Taghleef Industries’ EXTENDO® films, which are designed to meet these requirements, offering superior barrier properties while maintaining the recyclability of the material. This balance is crucial to reducing food waste and the environmental impact of packaging.

In the non-food sector, products such as shampoos and detergents require packaging and labels that resist chemicals, provide integrity during use, and maintain the same graphic appeal. By succeeding not only in meeting development demands but also anticipating end-of-life solutions, Taghleef Industries is helping to holistically redesign packaging structures and labels for each market segment.

In both sectors, collaboration along the entire value chain is essential to overcome the challenges associated with the transition to recyclable packaging. Taghleef Industries is committed to working closely with each stakeholder, providing technical support and advice through its reDESIGN™ service to develop tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of each application while ensuring regulatory compliance and the adoption of sustainable practices.
