Luxury Packaging that earns its Beauty from the Inside Out taghleef industries

Luxury fragrance and cosmetics brands have long treated packaging as an extension of the product itself — a physical expression of craftsmanship, desirability, and brand identity. The materials chosen for that packaging carry meaning:gloss, weight, texture, and finish all communicate something to the consumer before a single ingredient is considered.

What is changing is the expectation layered on top of that beauty. Luxury consumers — particularly in European markets— are increasingly unwilling to accept premium aesthetics at the cost of environmental responsibility. The question for packaging developers is no longer whether sustainability matters in luxury. It is whether the materials used to achieve it can genuinely hold their own on a prestige shelf.

Challenge

Premium packaging for fragrance and cosmetics has traditionally relied on fossil-derived films to achieve the gloss levels, print vibrancy, and tactile finish that luxury brands demand. Transitioning to biobased alternatives has been held back by a perceived trade-off: that sustainable materials mean a visible step down in visual impact — a compromise luxury brands are simply not in a position to make.

The ask: to develop a biobased film solution capable of meeting the exacting visual and tactile standards of high-end fragrance and cosmetics packaging without asking brands to signal their sustainability commitment through a reduction in shelf presence.

Solution

Taghleef Industries, in collaboration with Plastigraf Trevigiana S.R.L., developed a luxury packaging solution using NATIVIA® biobased metallized films laminated onto paper — creating rigid boxes for the high-end fragrance and cosmetics sector that deliver exceptional gloss, vibrant printability, and a refined tactile finish.

Rooted in circular economy principles, the structure replaces fossil-derived films with a biobased alternative that carries no visual penalty.

The solution was recognized as the winner of the Technology category at the Best Packaging 2025 awards, organised by the Istituto Italiano Imballaggio — with the jury citing its innovation, technical excellence, and impact on the packaging sector.

Benefit

  • Biobased at the core

NATIVIA® films are built from biobased raw materials, replacing fossil-derived polymers at the foundation of the packaging structure. This is not a coating or an add-on — it is a material choice that runs through the entire film, giving luxury brands a genuinely biobased origin story to stand behind rather than a marginal improvement to footnote.

  • Premium Aesthetics, Uncompromised

Exceptional gloss, vibrant colour reproduction, and a tactile finish that communicates quality on contact — NATIVIA® metallized films deliver the full visual and sensory toolkit that luxury fragrance and cosmetics packaging demands.Switching to a biobased substrate does not mean renegotiating shelf presence or brand standards.

  • Sustainability credentials that hold up to scrutiny

Luxury consumers are sophisticated readers of environmental claims. A biobased film laminated onto paper — designed around circular economy principles and recognized by an independent industry jury — gives brands a packaging story that is substantive, verifiable, and aligned with where the prestige beauty sector is heading.
