Market background

In the dairy sector, and particularly for products such as yogurt, packaging plays a key role in terms of both functionality and visual communication. Traditionally, polypropylene (PP) pots have been labelled with standard banderoles, but these make the recycling process more complex.
With changing European regulations and a growing focus on sustainability, brands need to adopt packaging solutions that are easier to recycle and consistent with a Circular Economy approach.

The Challenge

The challenge was clear – replace standard banderole with a full mono-material alternative capable of guaranteeing:

  • Technical performance suitable for FFS, thermoforming and printing processes
  • A solution that enhances cup recycling, improving the overall environmental impact
  • Even better printability properties than standard solutions of the market

To offer an alternative solution, Taghleef Industries began collaborating with Innotech, Emsur‘s innovation centre, with the aim of testing new solutions for yogurt pot banderoles.

The Solution

The solution was the introduction of LFE, a thermoformable PP film as an alternative for standard banderoles. This innovation allows for packaging made entirely of PP, improving recyclability and reducing environmental impact.

Thanks to the collaboration with Emsur, it was possible to demonstrate the technical feasibility of this solution. Tests confirmed that LFE film presented a good performance in terms of printability and adhesion on the cup.

The project is a concrete example of replacing standard solutions on the market with a mono-material solution, in line with sustainability requirements and the direction of the food packaging sector.

Conclusion

This case study demonstrates how the mono-material approach is a strategic key to the future of food packaging. Replacing standard banderoles with thermoformable PP film contributes to recyclability.

Thanks to the collaboration with Emsur, Taghleef Industries confirms its commitment to sustainable innovation, paving the way for new commercial applications of LFE films for increasingly efficient and circular packaging.
