EXTENDO® XRDL: The PVdC-Free Revolution in Premium Confectionery Packaging
The confectionary market, is constantly expanding thanks to consumers’ growing interest in new sophisticated recipes, especially for delicate products as chocolate. Companies in the sector must not only guarantee the protection of the product and performance on machines (high speed) but also pack recyclability. Brands are therefore looking for solutions that combine aesthetics, barriers, performance and circularity.
Challenge
The main objective was to maintain the appearance, barriers and high speed machinability of previous packaging while allowing recyclability by substituting the PVdC barrier.
To achieve this result, Taghleef Industries offered EXTENDO® PVdC free barrier films offering high oxygen barrier together with best in class mineral oils barrier, to substitute efficiently PVdC based solution.
The chocolate packaging had to:
- Protect nuts in the chocolate from oxidation and prevent aroma contamination
- Ensure the same efficiency on mini-wrap packaging machine as previous solution
- Demonstrate recyclability, backed by recognized certifications
Solution
The solution was to use EXTENDO® XRDL film reference developed by Taghleef Industries. This innovative material is white cavitated Polypropylene film with non PVdC barrier.
The great advantage is that EXTENDO® XRDL films guarantee:
- Un compromised product protection
- Uncompromised functional properties, such as printability and machinability
- Recycability thanks to non-PVdC barrier
The case study demonstrates how EXTENDO® PVdC-free barrier films represents a concrete response to the needs of the confectionary industry for sustainable and certified solutions, as alternative to non recyclable solutions (multimaterial laminates or PVdC coated films).
