How Taghleef’s ZLD Film as PP Monoweb Replaces Multi-Material Laminates in the Dairy Aisle
The dairy market, and in particular that of butter wrap, is facing challenges with regards to PPWR. Companies in the sector must not only guarantee the protection and the performance but are also called upon to reduce the environmental impact of their packaging. Brands are therefore looking for solutions that combine aesthetics, functionality, and a more responsible approach with recyclable structures.
Challenge
The main objective was to maintain the functional properties of traditional packaging while reducing dependence on multi-materials laminates (OPP-Alu foil, Paper-OPP). It was important to obtain a solution that could be recyclable without compromising the product protection or ease of use.
To achieve this result, Taghleef Industries offered low density cavitated white metallized OPP, to develop a PP mono-material packaging for butter.
The butter packaging had to:
- Preserve the product from light and maintain same level of shelf-life
- Ensure deadfold to keep product format
- Demonstrate a lower environmental impact, backed by recognized certifications
Solution
The solution was to use ZLD film developed by Taghleef Industries. This material combines deadfold thanks to its cavitated structure and specific adhesive applied by the converter, light barrier thanks to its metal layer, and a printable metal surface, all in 1 OPP film, suitable for recyclability in PP stream.
- The same appearance as previous solution combining gold / metal look with printing
- The same technical and functional properties, such as protection, reclosability
- A different environmental impact, thanks to improved recyclability vs multimaterial laminates solutions.
The case study demonstrates how ZLD represents a concrete response to the needs of the dairy industry for more sustainable solutions. The use of white cavitated metal OPP allows brands to reduce the environmental impact of packaging without sacrificing aesthetics or functionality.
